TWAA Water Skiing

Since 1997 over 80 individuals with disabilities in the middle Tennessee area have tried Adaptive water-skiing in a program sponsored by the Tennessee Wheelchair Athletic Association. In August of 1997 Tennessee Wheelchair Athletic Association and Patriot Ski Club at Center Hill Lake started a something totally new for the middle Tennessee area, Adaptive Water-skiing. With the help of Phil Martin and Adaptive Aquatics Inc the first Adaptive Water-Skiing Clinic was held August 2, 1997. It was a huge success with 19 people skiing; most for the first time. Since then the interest has grown with many skiers/volunteers. The Music City Water Ski Club on Percy Priest Lake has also joined in and helps some of the clinics.

Annually the program has 4-6 ski events, some on Center Hill Lake and some on Percy Priest Lake. The program is open to children and adults as well as most types of disabilities. The following type of disabilities have participated: Para, Quads, Amputees, Blind, Downs Syndrome, CP. Adaptive Water-skiing is a great activity for anyone who loves the water or wants a challenge; Even the beginner will have success and a good time water-skiing.
