TWAA Tennis

TWAA has been sponsoring a Tennis team to travel tournaments Since 1983 and sponsoring Music City Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament since 1985. Over 50 different athletes have participated in the program since it began. Players participate in 8-10 tournaments from Boca Raton to Los Angeles. The Music City Classic Tennis Tournament started in Murfreesboro in the 1985 and moved to Centennial Tennis Center in 1986 and then moved to Maryland Farms. The Tournament became very successful; growing to over 100 players in 1990 and drawing many of the top ranked players in the wheelchair tennis. In 1995 the Tournament returned to Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center, where it remains today. The Music City Classic was the very first wheelchair tournament to give away prize money and is still one of the best tournaments is the southeast. The ITF and USTA are the supporting organizations for the wheelchair tennis tour.

The 21st Music City Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament will be held June 10th, 11th & 12th at Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center. The Tournament Director is Blain Smith and the Tournament Coordinator is Kelly Skelton. To contact Blain call 615-862-8490 and to contact Kelly call 615-212-4193.

Wheelchair tennis is played with the same rules as regular tennis with the only exception being that the ball may bounce 2 times before it is returned. Wheelchair tennis is a great activity for any one that enjoys tennis but is unable to play standing up.
